Generally speaking, I have always felt that the older XRAY's are too stiff. Great on high grip, troublesome on low grip. The newer XRAYs have a little more flex but I have no idea whether a '008 will be the answer to your problems...
Generally, if the grip is low or inconsistent, a car with a bit more chassis flex, and with a slightly more rearward weight distribution will be easier to drive. Back when I ran on slippy floors for club racing, the Tamiya TA-05R was the most confident car I ever owned. More to the point, a lot of mid-level drivers tried that chassis and were instantly quick with it, whereas the same drivers would run XRAYs or Corallys (both very stiff cars) and struggle to get around.
If your TC3 is more driveable, then surely with a little setup time you could make it just as quick as the XRAY, if not quicker? The TC3 is no slouch, and that will be the cheapest solution.
