I didn’t want to be one of the many B4 guys and didn’t want to spend too much money, so I chose to buy two Mad Rat, one for racing and the other one for spares (a great combo from Germany for less than € 100, S&H included!!!). Then I started to upgrade it with full ball bearings, B4 Factory Team shocks, springs and titanium turnbuckles, Ansmann alu motor mount, front arm mount, 30° front hub carrier and 12mm hex drive, Ansmann 10T brushless system, Savox low profile SC1251MG servo. After few practice rounds at a local race truck I decided to add 30gr. using Core RC weights at the front to reduce understeering in low speed corners and I found out to prefer JConcepts Groovy front tires to the Proline 4-Rib ones. For rear tires I use Team Losi Big Shot that I think are better than JConcepts Goose Bumps or Proline Hole Shot. One of the biggest upgrade was the B-Fast diff and to follow the TQ Racing setting guide. This summer I’ve made my first race, the Italian 2WD Off Road Championship, not the savviest idea since I was the only rookie out of more than 70 racers and many of them were skeptical about my presence (few of them even annoyed). Anyway I ended the day 53rd after 5 qualifying rounds and 3 finals, always increasing lap totals while lowering lap times (those of the last final would have put me in the C final). The car was perfect, smooth and fast, with great handling and balance and probably in better hands would have had a much better result, but I didn’t broke anything and I’ve beaten many B4s and Cougars and more experienced drivers. By the way the 2nd overall was an X Pro (2nd, 2nd and 1st in the A finals). Next steps will be to practice, practice and practice even more, to try big bore shocks from TC Models and Panther front (Lynx 2) and rear (Raptor) tires and to work on some cool paintjobs.
