Sponsorship is not formula based (although it helps).
As mentioned it is what you can bring to the table for the sponsor - do you have a unique selling point perhaps that makes you stand out from the crowd?
The thing is, of those people that are 'sponsored', if they actually looked at what they do for that assistance is it really good enough...too many people sit on the laurels happy to wear a t-shirt and put some stickers on their car...
You should be promoting yourself at club meetings to assist those who need it - not just if they ask but if you see someone struggling.

Taking photos for promo purposes
Even if this stuff is just put up in the local shop or on the club website...
How many people actually do this stuff?
IMO there are too many people that don't promote their sponsors well enough. I've heard too many sponsored drivers refer to some of their equipment in a public area as 'sh!t' and it just shouldn't happen!
