It has to be bollox, it's always the 'wettest' or 'hottest' or 'coldest' since some date in the 1970's, or whenever - so it must have settled down since then.
There is a local forest up here that I go cycling in irregularly, no acid rain damage there so as far as I'm concerned I'm still waiting.
