Hi
I'll try to help as much as i can, i've been racing my vorza since march.
I agree; 4S just doesn't have the top end speed/rpm for a good 1/8 track, at least not the tracks i race at.
I'm not an electrician but my understanding is that the electric system needs current, a combination of volts and amps, therefore a higher voltage battery will last a little longer than a lower voltage battery of the same capacity. i.e a 6S 5000 mah battery will last longer than a 4S 5000 mah battery because less amperage is used due to there being more volts.
I primarily race mine using 2 * 3S 3700 batteries, because i have lots of them, a couple of things i found out was that like this the vorza is far too powerful, so limiting the travel of the throttle on the transmitter made it far more controllable, and the batteries will last longer. also in the esc i set the punch control to about 75 or 80 percent, now instead of spinning the wheels like made and wasting the battery, the car accelerates very fast in a controlled manner. i also understand that changing the 'motor timing' in the esc from normal (10%) down to low (0%) will save power at the expense of performance, as the vorza is too powerful that shouldn't be a problem but i've never tried it. i have tried using expo on the throttle instead of punch control in the esc, although i do still use a little expo; i prefer using punch control as the trigger travel stays linear to acceleration, also expo wouldn't save power.
i have had 20 minutes like this on an astro track, on dirt i always make the 15 minute final, the other week i lasted 18 minutes of a 20 minute final at pendle, however i don't qualify at the front of the A final, a good A finalist ran my car recently at changed the battery after 13/14 minutes.
i agree 5S is the way to go, remove the limitations of the throttle travel and you have the voltage to out run most, if not all, cars on the track (with stock gearing). also because this would be smaller and lighter than the 6S, you could use a higher capacity such as 5000. i saw an A finalist do a full 20 minute final using 5S 5000 batteries.
I personally wouldn't gear higher than stock, according to the manual, if you do you risk high temps which should be monitored, something i'd rather not have to think about.
I do have some higher capacity 4S and 5S batteries, but only one set of each so i don't really use them, i'd stick with sets of batteries that are the same, otherwise you would need to keep changing the suspension setup of the car depending on which batteries you were using (different weight and placement).
when it comes to getting new batteries i'll be getting 5S with a decent capacity.
DCM; the stock vorza motor is 2200kv
