But i would suggest you strip the diff & clean it all up rebuild to the manual.
Check for any worn parts like diff balls, depending just how old they are been run dry or dirt build up.
Also the slipper plates i would get bit of wet dry just clean them up dont go mad just soft clean up gets rid of any crap build up etc.

Sounds spot on that mate!...

If one side of the diff isnt turning in the opposite direction, maybe it was too loose??

Very hard to tell without seeing it!
