It's all relative, but the frustration I have at times is with being a little too safe. At club level there is no doubt that a crash free run will get you pretty high up the order (within reason). For example I have managed to win heats/races and yet my fastest lap is among the slowest in the heat. It all comes down to reducing that average lap time. As a general rule try to get your average lap time within a second of your fastest lap, and then try and look for places on the lap where you are losing time and work on that to get the lap times down. Also speak to people about car set ups. Problem is at Regional/National it's another story cause there is much less in it so you could have a crash free run and be in the bottom final cause almost everyone there can do a crash free heat.
