Yes, you are wrong!
It has made a notable difference in off-road, which is why there are so many weight kits around to bring the LiPo cars up to NiMH weights (although the latest LiPos are getting quite heavy now).
For those that choose to run without extra ballast, the basic weight distribution of the cars is affected. On a B4, the lighter battery actually moves the centre of gravity further back (contrary to what you might expect!).
