You can probably get either pretty cheap if you know where to buy. I made one for Dudley's micro national last year. Took ages to make the prototype, but about 2 days to make the second half. Wood will rot and can get damaged, but you could do things to protect it, but I've only done 1 jump myself, so I'm not the best to advise on this.
