the diffs aren't quite the same, the slots in the outdrives for example are different widths because the 416 uses plastic driveshaft blades. I think you'll find the outdrives on the spec R diff are soft aluminium so running 511 bones with no blades would chop them up pretty bad. A lot of people have been having problems with the spec R diff failing too due to the plastic construction inside.

I'll try measure how wide the 416 outdrives are tonight compared with the 511 to see if they have enough length

you can als mod the 416 pulley to fit an NT1 gear diff in 416, so you can potentially do the same with the 501/511 and that would be much more durable
