If you look closely at the out drive the small drive shaft goes into.. when the spur is turned and then released ints likeon a spring and winds back...
Have you tried doing the same with the longer prop shaft taken out?
Have you tried removing the short shaft and turning the front gearboxes outdrive?? what does this do?
As someone has said.. i would say something is bent..
