I'm disabled.. just physically.. some daft obscure bone condition..
Gets some stares.. There's 2 sides to the coin though, some people will mock or even be, not afraid, but not sure where to look or how to behave round me. and others just see straight through it and treat me like anyone else.
For every guy out there that calls your kid or me a spaz, there's 10 more that will come up and shake my hand and tell me how they admire the effort i put in to getting about.
You never knew the "spaz man" before, and he's obviously quite an ignorant person, so his comments shouldn't bother you. I know they do though. But you gotta treat those people the way they deserve.. If I reacted to every funny look, point and comment I'd run out of time for those who care. I've had 30 years of comments lol.. You will learn to laugh at them. You have to, or you'll get upset and they will bother you. When what's really important is you have 2 great kids who YOU care for.. Who gives a flying hoot what the rest of the world thinks..
They're entitled to their opinion, doesn't mean it's the right one, and I can't be arsed trying to change it. if that's the way they want to think, then i and you are better spending our time with the people who think the same way as us
I think it's sometimes tougher on those who are not disabled to see someone who is being ripped. My brother will sometimes ask - "that guy just said such a thing, want me to have a word?" (he's 6 foot, and sticks up for me no end lol) But i'll not even have noticed, bad people are just background noise, giving them your time just satisfies them.
Good on the officer re the comment though, sticks and stones and all that, but even so, words still hurt.
