Yes, yes and yes.

As far as the ESCs go:

RX8 for sensored ability, and the fact it's smaller than the others. Not only that, but it is the most 'race-oriented' of the three. The 'Tx programming' is easy when compared with other ESCs due to the 7 LEDs to show which set-up option you are on. Downsides: more expensive than the others. No hand-held programmer available, no PC link included.

MMM for reliability, ease of use, and that it's not too expensive, and comes with the Castle Link for free. It also has an excellent warranty, and Castle's support is very good. (1 year warranty, and if the ESC is outside that year, a replacement is $70 maximum). A hand-held programmer is now available. Downsides: Not sensored, large, fans are a pig to replace.

Hobbywing for price, handheld programmer, and ease of use. Downsides: Very large, limited warranty support, no UK distribution (even if the others are limited).

Motors (in rough order of price):
-Neu 1512 ~2000KV, or 1515 ~2000KV.
-Castle Neu 1512 1800KV or 1515 2200KV.
-Tekin T8 1900KV or 2050KV.
-Medusa 36-60-2000 (if you can still get one).

You can get some good deals on genuine Neu motors from Tekno-RC. You could use a 1509 motor, if the car is going to be lightweight (dependant on batteries really). Tekno's Lektron motor would also work out well, and is on sale at the moment.

Go the lower side of 2000KV if you plan on racing on a smaller track, or for extra controlability, or the higher side for a larger track, for more manic-ness or if bashing.

As for batteries - look at Hyperion really - you cannot go wrong with the VX range. They are cheap (relatively), have excellent performance, are available in a wide range of capacities, and are true to their ratings. Their discharge graphs also look good.

If they are a little expensive, look at the 35 or 40C Zippy/Turnigy LiPos from Hobbyking.
