most garages use and approved warranty so the cost has allready been spent by the dealer taking the warranty out, if its manufacuters warranty the dealer does not pay!!!
our dealership has mazda in there, an independant is more then likley not going to know what it is, or be able to claim on the warranty ( unless thier a spezialized independant)
