I wouldn't dip the motor in anything, nor run it unloaded on 6 cells.
To clean it your best bet is to pull it apart and clean the can and enbell with some motor spray and a cloth.
Get yourself a bearing remover to take the bearings out of the can and endbell and then either spray them out with motor cleaner or soak them in a jar of shellite.
For best maintenance of the comm you will need a lathe to re-true the comm. How often depends upon many factors like heat, gearing, driving style etc.
