Also clean the chassis/speedo/rx with some motor spray etc to make sure there is no grease etc on them.
I use Losi tape and no probs once clean.
As for the spur, the system the Cat uses is very good and keeps the mount very secure, the only time they seem to strip is when the slipper is too loose and the spur slips, heats up and the centre goes out of round and strips. Some people use RW or Associated spurs
