Try resting the diff in one half of the case to see if it spins free then do the same with the other half.
If the diff is spinning free in each half then it has to be something to do with when you put them together.
Make sure the bearings are sitting correctly in the slots on the diff case. Also check the shims that go behind the bearings are pushed all the way down. i think the shims are very slightly different sizes on each side so make sure they are the correct way round.
