That Frontera definitely looks like one to avoid! Has he used an old vacuum cleaner pipe for the snorkel?
Also the bushwires are meant to be attached to the bullbar, not the bonnet/wings (although they are illegal for road use anyway!!)
I would look for a disco, just make sure you check the boot floor under the carpet - if it's rusty then walk away, on 4 doors check the inner wheelarch when you open the door and the rear seatbelt mountings - again corrosion here is mot failure. You can get defenders for that money but they won't have a tdi engine, although you could transplant one from a disco in the future.
