Try Shoo Goo. It will protect and reinforce the shell in damage prone area's. Tape will not reinforce the shell.
Shoo Goo will also fit into corners and repair cracks. Just apply where you want to protect, or repair, use a wet finger tip to smooth,
or ice cube, and let cure. Thin for protecting paint, and thicker to guard against body flex. Been using it for years, great stuff!
I've even used a drop or two to secure wiring to a chassis. And, although I don't advise it, I've seen people use it to mount esc's and rx's.
