I remember seeing on a program once about the emergency services, that, they don't actualy have right of way at red lights, even when the blue lights are flashing. Its just us curtious drivers that would rather give them the room to get where they're going, quickly.
Its the same with ambulances, its their jobs to negotiate the traffic, not ours to get out of their way. They say ths because, some idiot drivers make unpredictable movements when trying to get out of their way.
I've seen some tosspots actually just come to a stop in the middle of the road!! totally blocking the ambulances path!! and nearly causing rear end accidents!
.....although, some ambulance drivers do have an 'I own the road' attitude.
I was on my way home from work once when I heard the telltale siren noise. Now, the traffic was stopped and was bumper to bumper so the carshad no where to go. So the ambulance was going to have to go onto the other side of the road to get round us....He still insisted on hanging out of the window and calling us all 'Tw*ts' for not moving!!....nice.
What are we supposed to do? get out of the cars and lift them to the pavement just so they can get through!??
