Well if you are willing to go to the expense of the brushless it will make the car very fast indeed, we are are talking 10th scale speeds. But its a lot of effort and the end result is rather like putting a 3.5t in a B4 - far too much power for the chassis to actually handle.
That said the plastic stock spur and middle pinion on mine have survived life with lipo and brushless, even when I tried driving it round the Bury Metro track! Partially this is because its so uncontrollable it won't go in a straight line for more than a few feet, but I think it might also be because its pretty tough.
Mine did break its gearbox, but that was when a 1/12th punted it at Macctrack.......
