The problem with that might be that it wouldn't brace the alloy main chassis then, and in a good shunt the main plate would probably bend - and that wouldn't be a good thing.
It's kind of ironic, because in reality the majority of cars have very similar geometry plastic parts these days. I haven't measured a Durango up yet, but having looked at one, i'd put money that it's very close to AE - certainly the rear. Which in reality most cars are!
So, when you take this into consideration, and JohnM's (hi m8!) views on the B44, means that it isn't entirely geometry that makes a car work or not.
