It must be said though that racing is expensive, at least compared to bashing anyway. Fees and spares aren't really the issue, tyres, cells and motors are. Brushless and Lipo help, but race spec brushless systems cost a lot of money as do quality lipos. Sure they'll last, but its a big outlay.

Don't get me wrong, it doesn't need to cost loads. You could be running a Madrat with a 3500mah lipo, 8.5t Ezrun and Acoms 2.4 radio for less than the purchase price of a Cat SX chassis but even if your car can keep up, you'll feel outclassed. Stood on the rostrum at Southport last weekend I was the only driver in 4wd who's radio cost less than £200! When everyone around you is spending mega bucks, its easy to believe you have to in order to compete.

Edit - Oh and of course there is also fuel costs. 20 years ago there were more local clubs, so you didn't have to travel far and petrol cost less. Today I face a 45 min drive to Bury, Southport or Stockport, which means a fair fuel bill even in the Smart. Going to regionals, nationals etc only increases this further.
