You dont need fans on them but a few of us are running one infront of the posts, especially on a hot day on high grip/grass tracks etc.. Just helps to keep things a bit cooler. Failing that just point the solder posts towards the air vents on the bodyshell and job done.
Never had a cap go on me but i guess it would never hurt to have one spare.
