A stick will fit across (just), but it would as pete says have to sit on top of the braces. So not brilliant, but it wasn't designed for them. Securing them would be difficult. Have a look at daves' car steve and you'll see what i mean.
I believe there is a narrow shell in the making so when you run the car with the side pods off, it ill be a nice snug fit.
