Ash that's not why. To take Top Gear as an example the BBC will sell the programme abroad also. Once they do that they can't show it themselves in that country. Eg if fox bought it for the states they'd be a bit pissed if the BBC then made it available first on iplayer anyway!

Didn't think iplayer worked anywhere abroad at all at the mo (I know it doesn't in the states) but from posts on here it's worth giving it a whirl in Monaco as it looks like it can be got in some places!
