The M1 roadworks are gone now, but a few nasties round by jcnt. 25-26 on the M25 with the tunnel refurbishment.
From the North M1/M25 is the best route really. NE you can try the A1/A14/M11 possibly? Don't go through London though! QE2 bridge all the way
