There is enough load on spring to hold the nut if you "shock" the rear wheels. You should only need to adjust it the tiniest amount!

If you want to do it the convensional way via the nut you can hold the nut still with long nose pliers and turn the rear wheels. I have a cheap 7mm spanner which I have ground down to fit into the whole in the topdeck, you could try that.
