The geared diff thing is not really a concern. The reason that Ball diffs came out is because there was not a slipper clutch and you could use the diff for a little slip. Slippers came out and I dont know why more manufactures have gone for gears. Traxxas did a geared diff for the Bandit back in the 90's and that made no difference at all. I ran the first Bandit into the UK, fare enough I shortened the chassic by an inch but it kept up with the best.
