I went for the not too blatantly winding her up line in the end, but enough to waste her time and take measurements.

"Thankyou for your quick reply. Can you please tell me what the measurement is from the top of the jeans (where the belts goes) to the highest part of the crotch? I have an odd sized body, and find it hard to get a good fit in jeans. Usually if they are too low cut my belly sticks out too much.
