Guess we will see more of those in the future. Today's motors are powerful enough and the batteries are as well so the possible extra weight wont be an issue. Probably somewhat welcome since the lipo invasion.
The only disadvantages with gear diff is are adjustment possibilities. One have to dissemble the whole thing to change oil. Turn the screw on a balldiff. Hand on the heart, who actually uses that function??? I just adjust it until it doesn't slip and then I leave it like that.
The perks with gear diffs are obvious. No slippage what so ever. Less maintenance. Up here in the cold parts of Europe we race indoors a lot and on carpet. Solely on carpet so that takes a toll on the diffs. Next indoors seson I will run a gear diff in a B4 for sure.
