Orion Revolution brushed motors stay nice and cool and provide very long brush life IF geared correctly. I really liked my Orion Revolution 11x2 when I had it in my 501 almost two years ago now.

Brushless motor systems are really the way to go, especially in the 501. Most racers place the ESC directly across the motor for best left/right chassis balance. You should be able to put the receiver and personal transponder directly across from the steering servo to keep things balanced on the car. Check the photos in the "501X electric installs" thread here in the Tamiya forum. It should help alot!
