Oh, and on the closeups, I notice a wire passing closer to the camera than the subject you are aiming at. perhaps your camera is trying to focus on the wire.... try to look at the tip of your own nose (no mirror) and your eyes hurt - I bet this is what camera is doing.
Try putting it onto 'Macro Closeup', move any passing wires/aerials, and try again.... fails? probably, thats cos Jimmy is right
