that is complete rubbish, all models now have the new cooler chips inside, in fact they got them before the Elite (Halo version was first)
The Elite is not worth the extra as it only has 60gb extra space, so unless you plan to use their download films service it really isn't worth it.
Microsoft also offer a cheap upgrade path for arcade owners to get a 20gb hard drive for £20. But to be honest you are probably just better biting the bullet and asking her if you can exchange it for a 60gb model.
some good deals floating around in the xmas run up offering 2 or 3 decent games for barely a tenner on the usual console price.
