Didn't another company (Tech Racing perhaps?) design the car, then sold it to Yokomo and Tamiya? Apparently, Yokomo just sold it as the designers intended, but Tamiya decided to "refine" a few bits.
Tamiya have done it before with the 415 touring car - which Tech Racing desgined, and then sold on as the MY-02.
