When my chassis is on the floor I still have 8-10mm of shock travel left. The blind part of the ball stud being forced into the wishbone and cracking/stressing the plastic sounds entirely plausable. Thankfully mine look ok. Good idea tho putting a chamfer on the edge of the hole giving it room to tighten up flush.
