When I build mine, I also noticed a stiffness in transmission where you indicated, on intermediate ratio gears. When you tight to much locknut placed on white gear and/or on slipper spring, you put more stress on brand new gears so the stiffness appears. But I guess this will be something of the past once the first run will be made
