Sounds very odd dude. I use Associated and Losi wheels on the B44 and they fit like a glove with no show of wear or stripping.
Sounds as if the your using the wrong size hexes. Or are you absolutely positive that you're bolting on Associated wheels? May sound daft but sometimes its just the simplist of things that confuse us humans.
