If you over-charge a NiMH cell they can go bang in a pretty cool way, I for one don't like to be near them when it happens tho. While were on the subject, if you stab yourself with a kitchen knife that can be pretty painful
Any thing can be dangerous if not used correctly, follow the instructions and you will be fine
