The most important thing for me is only go as fast as you can handle. A lot of people try to go too fast, buy motors that they can't handle etc. For racing when you are starting out, slow and steady is much faster than fast and crash. going round a track with other cars is loads different to driving your car around a field or what have you.
I started out with a 14 turn in my 2wd, I think a 19 turn spec would be a similar motor and ideal for a 4wd. I have used a 19turn at nationals and really it just loses out on the straight a bit, around most tracks its competitive and easy to drive.
just my opinion though, I just think speed is important, and too much of it just makes you slower.
