Here's how I choose my setup for better or for worse, I trusted my self to the dude at the shop, I told the young lad on the counter to go get the person with the best knowledge of brushless electrics they had, to his credit he said he wasnt the the best person to speak to and promptly brought forth another person how spent an enthusiastic HOUR running me through a complete setup for my new Pred X11 chasis.
I took all the manuals from the pred with me, DID lost of reading on the net and got tons of advice via forum posts ( thanks guys), visited the York club to see what they were running and talked to nearly everyone I could. I even took the chassis with me. I stated I was a beginner and only done some back yard bashing in a 2 wheel drive bandit, but realising how much fun this was likley to be wanted to set up a good 4wd X11.
Spec was "I dont want to feel I wish I had bought something better 3 months down the line, and price isnt an issue"
Ended up with a LRP 5.5 brushless motor, LRP sphere competition (forward/reverese only) ESC, Spektrum transmitter, I love it, some reciver that does the job nicley cant remember the name, for the servo I asked for fast recentering and good quality, got ACE RC DS1015 seem very fast, 2 sets of saddle packs matched 4600 cells, they offered to build them for and did a decent job BUT got the layout was wrong for my pred on the bridge over the drive shaft for my Pred no biggy I re-soldered them, I like the feel of the Deans connectors.
In pratice it goes like stink, racing it I feel no disadvantage against people who are better than me, though they all pass me on the curvy bits due to there skill and lack of mine.
To sum up, so much kit to choose from, try and get as much advise as possible, buy the best u can afford and read the above as my personal experience only )
How much did you end up spending? i know the cars bout £400 and the transmitter youve got is £210
