Since you have some experience, and your own electrics, I'd have to recommend trying to locate a
Mini-T Pro since it comes basically as a "roller" with most all of the good bits and pieces you'd need to make it race-worthy and extend its durability a notch or two.
Losi has discontinued the Pro, but there are some out there still available - so look and check around, I'm sure there's one of two to be had somewhere.
