Has the format for the event been sorted out yet? I gather that PTs will be registered to your team. So how will driver changeover happen, Ten teams means a possible 20 drivers and cars on at once....

could be your transmitter, some 2.4ghz radios seem to create a slow reaction unlike FM radios, the high end 2.4ghz are very good tho.
Maybe try another type of tranny to test it.
