Short front springs?

Until now i am still puzzled why is the stock front springs so short? Is it purposely setup like that? Any alternate springs that can be used?:confused:

I love the way my old xx4 absorbs the shocks over bumps. It looks like its floating. Thats why i thought of putting losi shocks at my bj4we. So will they effect the handling?:confused:
