Orion R10 / settings - which motor etc.

I'm moving from my LRP sphere's (of varying specs) to the Orion speedos.

I need some advise (please don't tell me to buy a SP / hobbywing instead !!!)

Ok - I run the V3 sp motors, but im not quick enough on the straight. Hence I want a speedo with some of this boost / timing voodoo to increase the top end.

Running a 7.5 in my Durango 210, will the speedo setting allow me to 'boost the timing' on the straights ok, or should I look to a different motor make - I've always felt the SP v3's were slow ?

Can't beat the Orion motors IMHO .... definitely quicker and smoother than the SPs I ran before!!

I run the R10 Pro in my 210 with an Orca 6.5t and i have turned everything right down as you dont really need it,it is a brilliant speedo

What Spur/Pinion are you running?

Adam F 16-04-2012 05:56 PM

I would go with either an Orion or Orca 7.5 or 8.5....

I have recently gone to 8.5 in my 2wd and its made me much more consistent and therefore quicker, but its still very quick down the straights..

Inside line had some cracking deals on the orca's and sell orion too, not much to choose between then with regards to performance IMHO but the orion's do look very nice indeed. (and I for one like to have matching kit)

On a side note, the R10's are just fantastic...

In my 210 I was running kit spur and a 26 pinion on a SP 7.5.
Car was good but not fast !

In my 210 I run a !/2S R10 with a 7.5 Orion VST motor gearing 78/25 ballistic on a long High Grip Astro straight some people with 6.5 sp motors cannot stay with me on the straight but need to wind the punch up for out of the corners!

Sounds good :)
Im going to go for the Orion motors - to match :)

Is there much difference between the 120 amp R10 and the 160 version ?

hotrodchris 16-04-2012 07:01 PM

Either JE or MD have a deal on a combo ESC and program box at the minute i believe but it is worth having!
Iv'e got the 120 in the 2wd and 160 in the 4wd mainly just for the extra room, the 120 doesn't have a fan but iv'e not found them to run hot enough to need one though!

I run an Orion R10 in both my cars

Orion R10, 6.5 Orion, FS2
Orion R10, 8.5 Orion, Vega RB5 - had my best runs recently with the 8.5

Extra room ? Can you elaborate :)

So, I won't need a fan in 4wd - winner :)

hotrodchris 16-04-2012 07:46 PM

The 210 has less room than the 410 with a standard shell on so it keeps the height down with no fan plus run a smaller turn motor in it as well, but both are the same price so if you have the room in your kit go for the 160amp!

i have 210 in rear config with a 9.5 x12 24/87 with 90a esc and a 210 in mid with 8.5 x12 24/87 with 120a esc. as ive gone away from lrp esc's myself . plus u dont need to run a fan and the motors come of just warm after 6 mins .

Thanks everyone for the info - really usefull :)

I'm picking up my Orion stuff tomorrow from MB - looks like a good choice from the comments, looking forward to seeing how it goes compared to my old LRP stuff.

Double post - oops

Picked up my speedo / motors.

Couple of questions :

1_What's the little lead for, that has a sensor wire plug on one end and a standard radio plug on the other ?

2_In my Durango 210 - with an Orion 7.5 motor, what settings would be good for the boost stuff, to simply get a bit more speed when on the straight ?

Cheers.

Bye the way the Orion r10 is made by Hobbywing.
