210/410 Shock Rod Ends

I seem to be getting through quite a few shock rod ends lately and I'm really miffed that for spares I have to purchase the 330293 parts tree every time at close on £10. I don't want the HD ballcups as I've changed to Lunsford and I don't want a zillion more sway bar rod ends, so most of the parts are redundant.

Has anyone tried the shock rod ends from any other brand who sell them seperately at a much lower price. If so, do the Durango inserts fit correctly?

No, I havent tried any other brands. sorry..

I have only ever managed to break one of these when I hit a track marker that had a coach bolt sticking up out of it.

How are you managing to break so many ??

We have a cobbled section at Southport and I think it could be on those that most are being broken. Unfortunately the bottom of the shock end protrudes quite a bit below the arm and is quite vulnerable when driving over uneven hard surfaces. They seem to split easilly at the bottom.

After breaking a front shock rod end I fitted a washer under the heads of the two front shock mounting bolts, same od as rod end. Had to replace a couple of washers as they got bent but not broken another end.. yet

Good idea I'll give that a go.

I checked the ball diameter and it's around 5.7mm. I had some old Losi standard bore shocks and checked the ball diameter on those and it's exactly the same, so looking promising. The only problem with the Losi ends was that the stem diameter was smaller than the Durango and so would flop around in the spring retainer. I’ll have a look at other shock rod ends this weekend.

One thing that I found me and other Durango drivers were doing is clipping the ball end on to the ball the wrong way which caused it to come off ball and go below the wishbone :-(

An easy way tell is if the front rod ends unclip off balls after racing you have rod ends clipped the wrong way :-)

Yes I spotted that one early on with my 410, so I've always made sure they are on correctly with my 210.

Si, if your'e reading this it is why the front shock on your 410 came off this last weekend and why it was easy for me as the marshal to pop it back on the ball again.
