Building a top spec V3 - anything else I need ?

I'm going to start my V3 build soon.
Is there anything - anyone would recommend taking over from my full fat 410, or anything that would be good to buy before building.

I was thinking :

Losi diff o rings for the diffs.
Rubber boots for driveshafts / shocks.
Stainless screw set (which one is best ?)
Tapered pistons for shocks (which ones and from where :))

Anything else worth it before its all screwed together ?

Aluminium rear gear box inserts are something i bought and put on my v3. I would imagine you should have them on you original 410, think most would reccomend using them.

Yep, I'll take those across - didn't know they were plastic on the V3.

Might get the rear weight kit and the new alloy servo saver too.
Are the alloy centre drive shaft retainers worth it ?

I was thinking :

Losi diff o rings for the diffs............the ones in the V3 kit are good enough
Rubber boots for driveshafts / shocks............maybe for the driveshafts?
Stainless screw set (which one is best ?)............I usually make my own sets up from Westfield fastenings or where ever your fave supplier is
Tapered pistons for shocks (which ones and from where :)............)have a look thro TDs setup sheets and get in touch with "Nick" on here (nick gurnell) think he will make you any combo you want

I edited above, it was meant to go italic but it all kind of blended into one
As for swapping over off the top of my head I took turnbuckles , rear gearbox inserts( as mentioned) and servo/ steering mount .

Hmm, I'm just building my own 'dream v3' at the moment Andy - I bet mine will be better

I've gone for the alloy rear gearbox loop, machined ring gears, alloy gearbox inserts on the back end.
I've got my eye on the alloy steering crank arm, alloy hexes and some other nice bits too.

MHeadling 09-04-2012 08:18 PM

Yes the alloy gear box/centre drive shaft hoops are worth having, a rear is a good option if your doing big jumps or crashing hard! Lol

I fitted a Tresrey one and had no issues, Durango do their own version too.

Iv never had an issue with the front hoop but if you get the Tresrey rear hoop be a shame not to get the front, nice bit of functional bling!

MB models do the tresrey bits now

Jimmy - yours might look nicer, but mine will be faster :)

I'm not going to build it until I have everything - thought I might as well do it properly and make it nice and shiny !

Post a parts list - then I can copy you :)

Ohh - I forgot about Tresrey !
Might bob over to MB tomorrow :)

MHeadling 09-04-2012 08:27 PM

Oh yes some very nice Tresrey stuff on Mb site, clamp 14 mm hex are on my shopping list!

The Tresey stuff is great quality, I'm sure you won't be dissapointed

Post some pics up of the build

I've been down Batley the past couple of weeks hoping you'd turn up Andy - sadly we'll have to wait and see :)

I got some EDIT counter sunk washers in that brown / olive colour to match the rest of the anodising. I've just got them on the lower shock screws and inner camber link screws (not using the ball stud style from the kit, but the older screw and threaded ball)
I also anodised my old titanium turnbuckles with a bunch of 9v batteries and some salt water - I was going for gold (!) but they've ended up matching the brown / olive hard anodising colour as well. They look quite nice.

Sadly it already looks too nice - so I might leave it on a shelf and build another new one to beat you with

Jimmy - Brown... I'll reserve judgment until I see it !

Couldn't make Batley last Sunday as with the kids off, it was all go at my house :) And I was allowed out the week before to the Spring Cup at Robin Hood.

I'll be there though in the future - and at the NE regionals. Love Batley and the track is great after the recent work that some of the chaps put into it.

Hopefully see you there, then we can compare :)

tresrey rear weight is a must in my eyes. i use that instead of the under car durango weight as it seems to give a bit more rear grip and stop the tea kicking up!! don't forget the big bore springs!!! also big bores need alloy threaded collars!! v3 comes with plastic oh and 2 pairs of the rear top quick tune shock mounts from the old car!! plastic ones in v3 look pants!!

The brown looks good!

Jimmy. Post a picky of the brown beast :)

Big G 10-04-2012 09:03 AM

I fitted the alloy steering rack, gearbox brackets, alloy shock collars, machine cut gears and Djoints from TD
Then the red washers, red rear gearbox bracket and alloy 14mm hexes from Tresrey
Then finished off with a LMR wing.

Should have my new shell back from paint tonight :D

Fozzy1989 10-04-2012 11:35 AM

I also added the servo saver, rear ally hoop and the gold 14mm hexes for my car. Forgot about the shock mounts as for whatever reason they are like rocking horse shit to get hold of at the moment new.

andys 10-04-2012 12:01 PM

Is the Tresrey stuff any good these days ?

I recall when it was released, people had the alloy red bits bend (servo saver - hubs etc)
I seem to recall reading of the centre drive shafts wearing after just a few runs ?

Wondering if I should avoid the red stuff and keep it all TD ?

Also, are the machined gears worth £20 each ?

hotrodchris 10-04-2012 12:03 PM

Ally servo saver and ally 14mm hex's plus ally front and rear gbox/driveshaft braces.
Then change the top shock mounts to the old style standoffs all round!

Fozzy1989 10-04-2012 07:46 PM

I decided to stick with all the TD parts, but a lot of people reccomend the tresrey stuff, mainly because they like the look of the red bling i would say haha

Jimmy - did you finish yours ?
Mine is almost done - I couldn't bring myself to butcher my other 410 - so have only added the parts I have bought for this one so far.

I managed (after hours of messing) to get an Orion R10 and sanwa receiver in, with a papers width clearance at each end !!!

Will post a piccy later.
