Brushed newbie

Hi guys

Need some tips on maintenance and setup of brushed motors.

I now have two peak vantage brushed motors. They are for vintage projects but for running.

Any guides or key tips would be helpful before I take them apart!

Thanks

Do you have a comm lathe? And new brushes?

No

No I have neither at present.

Briefly what does a comm lathe do and why is this needed often. Also what brushes are preferable?

You need a lathe to skim the comm as it wears due to contact from the brushes. The most modern brushed motors (such as the checkpoint range) need skimming less often than the older ones.
Brushes are dependant on the type of motor. Obviously "endurance" last longer than "sprint", but make less efficient power.
