What is best to use for track markings on astro track?

Hi all,

We at Bury Metro are looking to upgrade our track markings, but what is the best to use? What ever we use needs to be mobile and easy to store, but of course durable. We currently use tubing but as we get it out and put it away each meeting, it's not the most durable.

What does your club use that we may be able to replicate?

Cheers

at my local club we use this filled with sand and then bolt or rivet the ends up, it is then heavy enought to withstand shunts but is also flexible

Be interesting to see what other's think here too....we use that same type of blue hose at our indoor club...it's ok, fairly cheap and easy to get and fill, but I have a personal growing dislike for it. I find it kind of sticky...you can't 'rub' around it like we can with our really really old fabric fire hose. If you catch a wheel on it running round a corner it sort of sucks you in!

I'm now also involved in a new offroad track in Weston-super-Mare and I'm currently thinking of using the following...***CLICKY***

We have a load of this type of stuff that we use outdoors at Caldicot once a year for our regional event...not filled with anything, just pegged in place on a grass track. Since we only use it once a year, I'm not sure of it's suitablility for frequent use...but I can't say as we've had any trouble with it, hence me looking to use it in Weston. Does form really nice round apex's though, and the bright orange stuff is super visible!

Be interested to know if people have any negative comments about it?

I've said it before Darren - Landmines! Even the short courses won't cut the track if we lay a few of those babies down......

:eh?: On the outdoor Astro tracks we don't Will, maybe you should visit your home clubs outdoor track, at least before the season starts in just over a week or you will have a big shock climatising to difference from indoor venue... like standing on a proper height rostrum for starters?!

We use 3" Yellow Nylon type Gas Main pipe, with pins drilled through a larger top hole and secured inside through a smaller hole pin diameter to hold it down and hide pins from biting stray cars...

so it ends up like this:

http://www.a1racingclub.com/includes...mpfolder=_temp

Very strong, cars bounce off rather than get snagged, doesn't cause breakages, doesn't go brittle with UV or weather badly and still very visible on dark rainy days like above... only issues are its very hard to get hold of and very expensive to buy unless you blag leftovers from new housing estates like we did... downside is it also takes hours to lay a track but we have luxury of being able to leave it out permanently
