210 smaller spur
 

I read the ad and bought a 75T RW Spur to push the motor further back and get more weight over the rear end. The problem is that with the motor as far back as it will go I still need approximately 5mm more rearward movement before the 6.5T with a 20T pinion would mesh. I tried a 28T pinion and that still needed a few mm more.

So, two questions,
1. Has anyone managed to fit a 75T spur and if so what changes have you needed to make?

2. What is the smallest spur anyone has fitted without resorting to a Dremel?

i am running an 83 with a 27 pinion. seems ok.
speedo got a little hot though, but not enough to cut out.

If the idea is to move he weight further back then you will need smaller pinion not bigger (assuming mm4) as well as the fact you are effectivly gearing up with a smaller spur.

Hulk on here mentioned a few month ago at a chadderton meeting that he was trying out smaller spurs, the smallest pinion he could get on was a 16 to push the motor back, think he had 73 spur, was a while ago though and my memory is not what it used to be could have been slightly different:lol:

most guys are trying to get the motor as far forward as possible, not back. As the durango pulls some might wheelies the way it is.

i wasnt trying to get the motor further back. I was trying to get more top end... the stoc gearing hits full chat after about 5 meters. its pants

Yeah, I fitted an 81 in order to use a 10.5t motor and even then its undergeared if you use it unboosted.

Thanks Mark, I realise that you need to drop the pinion size if you drop the spur. That's why I fitted a 20T pinion rather than my normal 22/23 with a 6.5T motor. However, this of course compounds the issue in that you need even more rearward movement to mesh.
I think I'll try the 83 next as others have done so.

I agree in the dry, but when it's damp/wet/dusty it would be useful to get more rear-end and changing the spur/pinion is just a couple of minutes job. I could consider going from the 4 gear to 3 gear config, but that takes more time to change.

78 tooth spur with a 25 pinnion on a 7.5 turn fits with no problems and good all round performance.:thumbsup:
